Hocking Hills Escape
The Hocking Hills state park
region is located just north of the Vinton County
line. The following state parks and public
recreation areas are just minutes from Vinton
County.
Hocking Hills State Park

Mammoth rock formations, recess caves, and over 25
miles of hiking trails make Hocking Hills State Park
one of Ohio’s best known natural areas. There are
five major sections of the park including Ash Cave,
Old Man’s Cave, Rock House, Cantwell Cliffs, and Cedar Falls.
Lake Logan State Park

Lake Logan is a day-use park that provides scenic
picnic areas and secluded walking paths to enjoy the
wooded beauty of Ohio's hill country. The lake
sports northern pike, bass, bluegill, crappie,
catfish and saugeye, and is one of the best fishing
lakes in Ohio.
Tar Hollow State Park

Twisting park and forest roads pass through deep
ravines and dense woodlands. In addition to the
scattered shortleaf and pitch pines growing on the
ridges that were a source of pine tar for early
settlers, dogwoods, redbuds and a variety of
wildflowers color the hillsides in the springtime.
Fall's pageant of color is spectacular. Recreation
facilities include the 15-acre Pine Lake.

Within the nearly 9,700 acres of the Hocking Hills
State Forest you will find bridle trails and a
horsemen's camp, 99 acres set aside for rock
climbing and rappelling, and an unusual variety of
native plant life and associated wildlife.

A wealth of recreational activities are available at
Tar Hollow State Forest, including a primitive horse
camp and 26 miles of bridle trails, hiking trails,
and paved and gravel forest roads that provide a
great opportunity for a scenic drive.
Conkle's Hollow State Nature
Preserve

Spectacular 100-foot-deep sandstone gorge with
excellent vistas. The sheer cliffs of Black Hand
sandstone rise nearly 200 feet above the valley
floor. The cliff tops with their magnificent
overlooks and the quiet gorge beneath offer visitors
an opportunity to explore different habitats, each
with its own unique plant and animal communities.
Kessler Swamp State Nature
Preserve

A variety of wetland-dwelling plants thrive in the
swamp, including buttonbush and bur-marigold. A
healthy population of beaver also calls the swamp
home. During the spring and fall migration period,
the preserve offers excellent waterfowl viewing.
Rockbridge State Nature Preserve

Rockbridge's natural arch or bridge is more than 100
feet long and 10 to 20 feet wide, and gracefully
arches 50 feet across a ravine. It is considered the
largest natural bridge in Ohio. The preserve also
offers excellent spring wildflower viewing.
Wayne National Forest

With over 300 miles of hiking, biking, off-road
vehicle, and horseback riding trails, Wayne National
Forest spans several Ohio counties, including
Hocking County. From canoeing to hunting, horseback
riding to mountain biking, Wayne National Forest
offers a wide range of recreational opportunities
