Vinton County Air Show
Ohio's largest free air show, the Vinton County Air Show, will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Vinton County Airport, just north of McArthur, Ohio. The air show is being held as a tribute to aerobatic pilot Harold Johnson who died earlier this year.
Prior to his death he performed at the Vinton County event every year, or nearly every year, since its beginnings and in the early days was a planner and organizer of the show.
The chickens and side dishes are being ordered so the airport's famous barbecued chicken dinners will be ready to sell to hungry diners at about 11 a.m. The air show will begin at 1 p.m.
A donation will be requested as visitors enter airport property, but there is no additional charge to attend the air show. A number of vendors will be on the scene selling a variety of items and foods including cotton candy and funnel cakes this year. The Red Cross will sponsor a blood mobile at the airport that day. There will be a candy drop for the kids and the Screaming Chicken Skydiving Team will demonstrate their free-fall skills to open the show and will jump again near the end. Airplane rides will be available at the end of the show.
Several other acts are currently being arranged. Some of the country's finest air show performers will take to the air during the afternoon and are sure to thrill, even scare, those who are watching from the ground. There will be lots of noise and lots of smoke over the Vinton County Airport Sunday, September 18.
Mark your calendars now for September 18 and get to the Vinton County Airport early because once the chicken dinners go on sale they don't last long and once the air show begins you won't want to get out of your chair to miss a minute of the action. It is recommended you bring your own chair since seating will be limited.
The Vinton County Air Show is a major fundraiser for the airport which is managed and maintained by the Vinton County Pilots and Boosters Association. The event is also a major tourism attraction with people flying in and driving in from across Ohio and surrounding states.
For more information concerning the air show call Booster President Nick Rupert at 740-357-0268 or Booster Secretary Steve Keller at 740-418-2612.
