Vinton County Air Show
Ohio's largest free air show, the Vinton County Air Show, is held at the Vinton County Airport on the third Sunday of every September.
In addition to the aerial acts, be sure to try the airport's famous barbecued chicken dinners. Meals are ready to sell to hungry diners beginning at about 11 a.m. The air show begins at 1 p.m.
A parking donation is requested as visitors enter airport property, but there is no additional charge to attend the air show. A number of vendors sell various items and food. There is always a candy drop for the kids and the Screaming Chicken Skydiving Team will demonstrate their free-fall skills to open the show and will jump again near the end. Airplane rides are available at the end of the show.
Some of the country's finest air show performers take to the air during the afternoon and are sure to thrill, even scare, those who are watching from the ground. There is always lots of noise and lots of smoke over the Vinton County Airport during this famous air show.
Mark your calendars now for the third Sunday in September and get to the Vinton County Airport early because once the chicken dinners go on sale they don't last long -- once the air show begins you won't want to get out of your chair to miss a minute of the action. It is recommended you bring your own chair since seating will be limited.
The Vinton County Air Show is a major fundraiser for the airport which is managed and maintained by the Vinton County Pilots and Boosters Association. The event is also a major tourism attraction with people flying in and driving in from across Ohio and surrounding states.
