Vinton County is located in the southeastern portion of the state, and is the least populous of the 88 Ohio counties. Located in the foothills of the Appalachians, Vinton County is primarily a rural, forested area. Its beautiful lakes, streams and creeks, trees, hills, and wildlife, regularly attract tourists and visitors to the County.

Others attractions include Wayne National Forest; Tar Hollow State Forest; Zaleski State Forest and Park; Lake Hope State Park and Lodge; Lake Alma State Park; Lake Rupert Wildlife Area; Mead Corporation Wildlife Area; Hope Furnace; Richland Furnace; five-covered bridges; and 100 mile-long Raccoon Creek, the longest creek in the U.S.

US Route 50, and State Routes 56, 124, and 671 cross the county east and west, and State Routes 32, 93, 160, 278, 324, 328, 356, 683, and 689 run north and south.

Vinton County has great hunting, fishng, and exploring opportunities. Three picturesque lakes, Lake Hope, Lake Alma and Lake Rupert, Ohio State Forests, Ohio State Parks and even a National Forest are located within the boundaries of the county. There are more than 70 miles of trails for hiking, mountain bike trails, horseback riding and backpacking.
